Left Rear Compartment (Trunk) - Waterleak

SUBJECT:
Waterleak Into Left Rear Compartment (Trunk) (Apply Sealant to Inner Wheelhouse Seam)
MODELS AFFECTED:
All 1993 Sedans and Coupes built between VIN PZ182790 and PZ182930.
CONDITION:
Luggage compartment is wet at left rear wheelhouse and outer pocket area.
CAUSE:
Sealer skips in sealer at left rear wheelhouse.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Apply seam sealer to wheelhouse seam using following procedure.
PROCEDURES
1. Pull back left rear side wall trim inside of rear compartment. (Refer to procedure under "Rear Floor Trunk Trim" in the "Rear End" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual.)
2. Remove rear wheelhouse liner:
^ Remove four inner plastic fasteners.
^ Remove plastic fasteners at outer edge of fender liner and remove wheelhouse liner.
3. Run water over top of left quarter and up into left wheelhouse (as shown in illustration), onto seam.
4. Inspect seam inside of rear compartment shown in illustration for any water intrusion. If water is present at the seam, go to step 5. If no water is present, refer to "Waterleaks" in the "General Information" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."
5. Make sure area is dry, then using a seam sealer such as 3M Brushable Seam Sealer (P/N 08648) or equivalent, apply to wheelhouse seam from inside of luggage compartment as shown in illustration.
6. Allow the sealer to dry completely and water test area to make sure that the leak has been repaired. If there is still a waterleak present and seam is sealed correctly, refer to "Waterleaks" in the "General Information" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."
7. If waterleak has been repaired, install rear compartment rear side wall trim.
