Service Procedures
Removal1. Remove wiper arm finish cap and wiper arm fastener.
2. Lift wiper blade assembly away from windshield and remove wiper arm from pivot.
3. Remove fasteners at windshield edge of cowl trim panel. Open hood and remove remaining cowl trim panel fasteners, and remove cowl trim panel.
4. Disconnect windshield washer hose.
IMPORTANT:
Exercise care when removing instrument panel top cover to keep from scratching windshield garnish moldings.
5. Remove instrument panel top cover by removing screw caps and screws. Lift panel at rear edge to disengage clips and slide panel out of clips at windshield.
6. Lift upper trim panel to disengage clips at rear edge.
7. Pull panel rearward out of clips at the bottom of windshield.
8. Remove upper trim panel.
9. Remove screws and unsnap windshield defroster nozzle from mode valve assembly.
10. Remove windshield defroster nozzle by rotating front of nozzle up and away from windshield, exposing wiper module fasteners.
IMPORTANT:
For SC1 and SC2 vehicles, leave defroster nozzle in place after disconnecting. Nozzle cannot be removed because of windshield rake angle.
NOTICE:
Use care when removing wiper module from cowl to avoid pivots contacting windshield.
11. Remove wiper module fasteners, partially remove wiper module and disconnect wiring from motor and module frame. Remove wiper module.
12. Remove wiper motor crank arm attaching nut and disconnect wiper motor crank arm from motor shaft.
13. Remove wiper motor fasteners and remove wiper motor from wiper module.
Installation
1. Remove wiper motor crank arm from new wiper motor assembly (P/N 21049032) and discard.
2. Connect wiring to new wiper motor, turn key to "ACC" position and turn wiper control On momentarily. Once wiper control is turned Off, wiper motor will be in the PARK position.
3. Turn key to "LOCK" position and disconnect wiring.
4. Install wiper motor onto wiper module.
Torque: 10 N-m (89 in.lbs.)
5. Position wiper motor crank arm at 9 o'clock position, and install on wiper motor shaft.
6. Apply Loctite(R) 242 (or equivalent) to wiper motor crank arm attaching nut and install.
Torque: 28 N-m (21 ft.lbs.)
7. Partially install wiper module assembly. Connect wiring to wiper motor and wire harness to module frame.
8. Install wiper module assembly.
Torque: 10 N-m (89 in.lbs.)
9. Turn wiper switch On momentarily. Once wiper switch is turned Off, wiper motor should be in PARK position with wiper motor crank arm at 9 o'clock position.
10. Connect windshield washer hose to cowl panel.
11. Install cowl trim panel.
NOTICE:
Use new nuts (P/N 20604449 or 21049074), torque retention of old nuts may not be sufficient.
12. Install wiper arms.
Torque: 28 N-m (21 ft.lbs.)
13. Rotate windshield defroster nozzle onto mode valve assembly and install screws. Make sure duct is snapped on both sides of HVAC module.
14. Install upper trim panel by inserting into clips at windshield and snapping rear of panel into place.
15. Install upper trim panel screws and screw caps.
16. Test all wiper functions.
