SUBJECT:

Whistle Type Windnoise at Highway Speeds, or Groaning Type Noise During Periods of Precipitation (Replace Radio Antenna Mast) This bulletin has been revised to add information under the bulletin subject, to change information on models affected and to change the service part number. This bulletin supercedes bulletin 94-T-25C, which should be discarded.

MODELS AFFECTED:

1991-1997 Saturns

CONDITION:

Some owners may comment that a whistle type noise is heard at highway speeds. Noise may be perceived to come from high-up in the dash, near the windshield. Condition may be more pronounced when crosswinds are present or during periods of rain.

Also, a groaning type noise may be heard during periods of precipitation. (includes fog and/or rain). This noise is also perceived to come from high-up in the dash, near the windshield.

CAUSE:

These noises may be caused by airflow around the radio antenna mast.

CORRECTION:

Drive vehicle to confirm noise condition(s). After confirming noise condition(s), remove radio antenna mast and drive vehicle to verify noise condition(s).

^ If noise condition(s) is present with radio antenna mast removed, refer to "Windnoise Diagnosis and Repair" in the "General Information section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."

^ If noise condition(s) is not present with radio antenna mast removed, replace radio antenna mast with the new radio antenna mast (P/N 15739183).

Torque: Torque finger tight, then tighten an additional 1/4 turn using an 8 mm open end wrench.

IMPORTANT:
Do not use adhesives to retain radio antenna mast to base. The use of adhesives may cause poor reception.
