Disabling the Power Unlock from Driver's Door Cylinder
NO.: 91-T-47ADATE: November, 1993
GROUP: Body
CORP NO.: 1890O2R
SUBJECT:
Service Information Procedure for Disabling the Power Unlock of all Doors From Driver's Door Lock Cylinder, at Customer Request (Modify Wiring)
Due to revisions in the affected model years, replacement of a Packard Electric part number with a Saturn part number and a vision to step 4 on page 2, this bulletin supersedes bulletin 91-T-47, which should be discarded.
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991 - 1993 Saturns equipped with power door locks
CONDITION:
At customer request, the feature that allows all doors to be unlocked from the driver's door lock cylinder may be disabled. The procedure described in this bulletin will allow the feature to easily be enabled at a later date, if necessary, and ensures that the power door lock circuitry and components are protected from corrosion and/or electrical shorts.
PROCEDURE:
1. Disconnect negative battery terminal.
2. Remove outer door panel according to "Outer Panel" procedures in the "Doors" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."
3. Disconnect the black 3-way key cylinder switch connector from the door wiring harness.
4. Remove the terminal on the key cylinder switch male connector (P/N 12084592) from cavity A (black wire 1991 and early model 1992 vehicles, black with white stripe on late model 1992 and all 1993 vehicles).
a. Remove terminal position assurance (TPA) device.
b. Insert appropriate size terminal lock release tool into the front of the connector cavity.
c. Pull the wire and terminal out of the back of the connector.
5. Tape the terminal back into key cylinder switch wire harness.
IMPORTANT:
Failure to install terminal plug will allow moisture to enter connector cavity causing corrosion and possible door lock circuitry and component damage. The door harness side of the connector has battery voltage at cavity A and, if exposed to moisture, door lock relay damage could result.
6. Install weather pack cavity plug (dark red) (P/N 21022537) into cavity A of male connector (location where wire was removed) to prevent moisture intrusion.
7. Connect key cylinder switch to door wire harness.
8. Install door outer panel according to "Outer Panel" procedures in the "Doors" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."
9. Connect negative battery cable and reset clock.
10. Verify power door lock system performance.
