Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Condition and Cause

CONDITION:
Some customers may comment about a loud windnoise sounding like a hoot (similar to blowing across a bottle top) when the vehicle is driven at highway speeds and/or in strong crosswinds.

CAUSE:

A low-pressure pocket forms around the upper front door frame area (refer to illustration), and becomes larger and stronger at highway speeds or while driving in strong crosswinds. This low-pressure pocket pulls the front side door window secondary weatherstrip away from its sealing surface, creating a loud "hoot" type windnoise.

This windnoise is most likely to occur on doors that are misadjusted with the front side door window secondary weatherstrip only slightly touching the windshield and/or drip rail molding surface at the upper front door frame area.
