Parking Brake System: Adjustments

1. Disconnect battery ground cable.
2. Remove center console assembly as follows:
a. On models with automatic transaxles, tape release button in on the shift lever.
b. On models with manual transaxles, remove shifter knob.
c. On all models, remove liner in rear storage tray and remove two screws under liner.
d. Remove two screws on front side of console, then apply parking brake and remove trim plate below park brake lever by lifting at rear edge and working plate up evenly.
e. Remove both ash trays, then disconnect front ash tray light from console.
f. On models with power windows and mirrors, remove window/mirror switch by pushing switch forward and lifting rear edge. Disconnect electrical connectors.
g. On all models, remove side trim panels from center console.
h. Lift rear of console, Fig. 1. Release and push out both seat belt bezels from below console.
i. Lift console out while feeding seat belts through console.
3. Raise and support vehicle.
4. Pull parking brake lever to third click from released position.
5. Tighten adjuster nut, Fig. 2, until slight brake drag is felt at rear wheel.
6. Apply and release parking brake several times.
7. Pull lever up to second click. There should be no brake drag at rear wheels.
8. Pull brake lever to third click. There should be slight drag at rear wheels. Adjust if necessary.
9. Pull lever to fourth click. Rear wheels should not turn by hand.
10. Reverse procedure to install center console assembly.
