Engine Control Module: Service and Repair

PCM Location - Under Left Hand Dash.:








WARNING: On vehicles equipped with a SIR system, disable the SIR system before you begin your work. Be sure to enable the system when you are done.

CAUTION: The EEPROM is not serviceable and should not be removed for replacement. If the PCM is removed from the vehicle, reprogramming of the EEPROM will be necessary. Reprogramming of the EEPROM is only possible with the Service Stall System (SSS) hardware available at authorized dealer locations. Check with a Saturn dealer before performing PCM or EEPROM replacement.

REMOVAL


1. Disconnect negative battery cable.

2. With a screwdriver, turn PCM retaining screw 1/4 turn counterclockwise to remove PCM from carrier assembly.

3. Remove connectors from PCM and remove PCM from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

1. Install connectors to PCM.

2. Push PCM up into the carrier until two clicks are heard.

3. Connect negative battery cable.

4. Reprogram EEPROM.

CAUTION: The PCM contains a EEPROM that must be reprogrammed when a service PCM is installed. See Saturn dealer for further information.
