Service Information on New Exhaust Manifold Gasket

This bulletin is being revised to change the torque specification for the exhaust manifold and supercedes 97-T-07, which should be discarded.

MODELS AFFECTED:
1993-1997 Saturns equipped with DOHC (LL0) engines





PURPOSE:
Interim 1997 Saturns equipped with DOHC (LL0) engines built after and including VIN VZ296299 will be built with a new second design exhaust manifold gasket. This second design exhaust manifold gasket, made of three-layers of laminated steel (refer to illustration), can be installed with either side towards the cylinder head. (The original first design exhaust manifold gasket is non-asbestos fiber and perforated steel.)

The second design exhaust manifold gasket (P/N 21008327) should be used to service all 1993-1997 vehicles equipped with DOHC (LL0) engines and must be torqued to 17 Nm (150 in-lbs). (DOHC [LL0]) engines built since 1993 are equipped with a cast iron exhaust manifold.)

The first design exhaust manifold gasket (P/N 21000849) must be used to service 1991-1992 vehicles equipped with DOHC (LL0) engines with the tubular steel exhaust manifold.
