Door Trim Panel - Buzzing Noise

Buzzing Noise From Door, Door Speaker and/or Speaker Grille (Replace Interior Door Trim Panel Retainers)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991, 1992 and 1993 Saturns
CONDITION:
An intermittent buzzing noise comes from the interior door trim panel. This condition is often incorrectly diagnosed as speaker buzz.
CAUSE:
Retainers damaged during the installation of the interior door trim panel may lose their retention over time, causing the panel to become loose and buzz. This condition is often diagnosed as speaker buzz resulting in the unnecessary replacement of the door speakers.
CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Remove retainers from interior door trim panel. Install anti-rattle material to retainer housings. Replace interior door trim panel retainers with new retainers P/N 21042104 on the door that exhibits the buzzing condition.
PROCEDURE:
Refer to the "Door Trim Panel" procedures in the "Doors" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."
1. Remove door trim panel.
2. Remove retainers from door trim panel.
3. Count the number of retainer locations on door trim panel and cut the same number of 24.4 mm (1 in.) squares from the loop portion of 3M Hook and Loop material (P/N 06480) or equivalent.
4. Using scissors, cut a 3 mm (1/8 in.) slot, 16 mm (5/8 in.) deep in center of each square of loop material.
5. Install loop material over retainer housings.
6. Install replacement retainers (P/N 21042104).
7. Install door trim panel.
