Intermittent Squeal from Front of Engine on Initial Cold Start
(Replace Belt Idler Pulley Assembly)
This bulletin is being revised to add a VIN breakpoint and supercedes bulletin 94-T-56, which should be discarded.
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991-1995 Saturns and including VIN SZ301073
CONDITION:
An intermittent squeal may be heard from the front of the engine on initial cold start. This condition most likely occurs when ambient temperatures are below 4°C (40°F).
CAUSE:
The intermittent squeal may be caused by the belt idler pulley assembly bearing.
CORRECTION:
Verify that a squeal is heard from the front of the engine during initial cold start. Once the condition is verified, replace the belt idler pulley assembly, with a new service belt idler pulley assembly containing a revised bearing. Refer to the appropriate Saturn Service Manual for the removal and installation procedures.
