Service Information on Rear Window Washer Nozzle Replacement
MODELS AFFECTED:
1993 - 1995 Saturn S-Series Wagons
PURPOSE:
This bulletin provides the rear window washer nozzle kit part number. service replacement procedure, and labor codes for service on 1993 - 1995 Saturn S-Series wagons.
Instances where rear window washer nozzle assembly should be replaced include the following:
^ Washer nozzle may break inside pivot shaft that extends through liftgate window, allowing external portion of washer nozzle to rotate while rear wiper arm is in motion.
^ Washer nozzle may clog internally.
Customers may comment that the rear window washer is not cleaning the liftgate window effectively and/or is not spraying washer fluid at all. Customers may also comment that washer fluid is leaking out of the liftgate.
Perform procedure in this bulletin to replace washer nozzle with new two-piece nozzle.
PROCEDURE:
Rear Window Washer Nozzle Replacement
1. Remove wiper arm cap.
2. Raise liftgate. Remove wedge blocks from liftgate.
3. Remove liftgate lower trim panel lower fasteners by pushing in center pin until it clicks (approximately 3 mm [1/8 in.]) and remove fasteners.
4. Insert a screwdriver into hole in liftgate lower trim near rear wiper pivot so that screwdriver sits on top of pivot. Lift up on screwdriver handle and disengage trim panel upper clips as shown in view A. Remove trim panel.
IMPORTANT:
To assist in loosening nozzle, pry between plastic at base of nozzle hose connector and wiper motor linkage.
5. Remove nozzle from end of rear wiper module pivot shaft with pliers and discard nozzle.
6. Remove nozzle hose connector from pivot shaft by disengaging tab from wiper base plate.
7. Disconnect washer fluid hose retaining tab.
8. Disconnect washer fluid hose from supply hose.
9. Lubricate outside portion of new nozzle hose connector that goes inside pivot shaft with lubricant (P/N 21038914).
10. Install nozzle hose connector into rear wiper module pivot shaft until tab on nozzle hose connector is engaged into wiper base plate.
IMPORTANT:
If nozzle opening is not installed in 12 o'clock position, it will not seat correctly.
11. Place new nozzle into threaded end of pivot shaft so nozzle opening is in 12 o'clock position as installed in vehicle.
12. To seat nozzle in nozzle hose connector, apply pressure to top of nozzle and end of nozzle hose connector at base of rear wiper module pivot shaft. Nozzle should snap in place and not be able to be pulled back out easily.
13. Connect washer fluid hose to nozzle hose connector and supply line.
14. Insert washer fluid hose retaining tab into washer module base plate.
15. Install lower trim panel by aligning and pushing at upper clips into their locations.
16. Reset trim panel push in fasteners by spreading center pin tabs and moving center pin so that it extends out approximately 6 mm (1/4 in.).
17. Insert fasteners into bottom of liftgate lower trim panel and push center pin of fasteners until flush.
18. Install liftgate wedge blocks.
19. Install wiper arm cap.
