Wiper & Washer - Battery Telltale Light Flashes When On
BULLETIN NO.: 93-T-17ISSUE DATE: April, 1993
GROUP/SEQ. NO.: Electrical-03
CORPORATION NO.: 389002
SUBJECT:
Battery Telltale Light Flashes Intermittently at Start of Windshield Wiper Pulse (Install Suppressor Diode)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1991-1993 Saturns
CONDITION:
While windshield wipers are on in the intermittent, mist or wash settings, the battery telltale light may flash quickly at the start of the wiper pulse.
CAUSE:
A voltage transient from the windshield wiper module causes the voltage regulator on the generator to reset causing the battery telltale light to flash once each time the reset occurs.
CORRECTION:
Install suppressor diode assembly into wire harness according to the following procedure.
NOTE:
This condition does not cause a malfunction in the wiper or charging system.
PROCEDURES:
1. Locate wiper module wiring harness pass-through grommet, located in the engine compartment.
2. Peel back tape to expose wires approximately two inches from the pass-through grommet.
3. Locate black (circuit 153R) and white (circuit 93) wires in wiper module harness.
NOTICE:
If wires are incorrectly positioned in suppressor diode, the diode will cause a short circuit causing the 25A Wiper Fuse to open.
4. Position wires in the suppressor diode.
5. Close suppressor diode cover completely, engaging "Pre-Locks" on both sides.
6. Engage suppressor diode's "Primary Locks" on both sides.
7. Apply black water resistant electrical tape over wiring harness and suppressor diode.
8. Verify that condition has been eliminated.
