Windshield - Water Leak At Top Corners

NO.: 91-T-30B

DATE: November, 1993

GROUP: Body

CORP. NO.: 181510R

SUBJECT:
Water leak at Top Corners of Windshield (Apply Sealer to Roof Flanges and Roof Side Drip Molding Clips)

This bulletin is being reissued to include all 1992 Saturns and supersedes Bulletin No. 91-T-30A which should be discarded.

MODELS AFFECTED:
All 1991 - 1993 Saturns

CONDITION:
Water may enter at sides of roof panel flange where outer and inner roof panels are welded together or at roof side drip molding clips where they attach to the roof panel. Customer may comment that the leak develops after the vehicle is subjected to an extended rain. The leak may not occur during a brief rain or in a car wash.

CAUSE:
An opening may exist between the inner and outer roof panels in the space between the welds connecting these panels. Water may enter this opening and/or around the roof side drip molding clips and flow toward the front of the windshield, where water may leak down the inside of the glass.

CORRECTIVE ACTION:
Perform the following procedures to locate the area where the water is entering the vehicle

PROCEDURE:

1. Refer to "Water leaks" in the "General Information" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual." Perform the "Water leak Diagnosis and Repair" procedures to locate a leak around the windshield area. If a leak is detected, paddle in extra adhesive using a flat flexible tool and adhesive from Adhesive Kit P/N 12345633 (or equivalent urethane adhesive). Verify that leak is fixed.

2. If no leak is found using the above procedures and there is evidence of a previous water leak in the front corners of the headliner, remove the roof drip molding for either the Sedan or Coupe, according to procedures under "Roof Drip Molding" in the "Doors" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."

3. Apply Kent Industries Leak Chek (Black), P/N 10510 (or equivalent) to the entire length of the roof flange. Use a flat flexible tool and apply where the outer and inner roof panels are welded together, as shown in illustration. Be careful not to get sealer on other parts of the vehicle.

4. Apply sealer around all of the roof side drip molding clips as shown in illustration.

5. Install the roof drip molding according to procedures under "Roof Drip Molding" in the "Doors" section of the "Body/Collision Repair Service Manual."
