Ignition Key - Cannot Be Removed from Lock Cylinder
BULLETIN NO.: 95-T-20ISSUE DATE: April, 1995
GROUP/SEQ. NO.: Electrical-05
CORPORATION NO.: 589001
SUBJECT:
Ignition Key Cannot Be Removed from Ignition Lock Cylinder (Replace Ignition Lock Cylinder, Tumblers and Springs, and Cut New Keys)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1994 Saturns with VINs between RZ205000 and RZ240000
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment that their key shows excessive wear, is difficult to remove from the ignition lock cylinder or cannot be removed from the ignition lock cylinder.
CAUSE:
The key minder actuator on some ignition lock cylinders has an improper finish causing it to scrape against the key and remove key material. Once the plating material is worn through from several key extractions, the softer base metal of the key can become gouged by the edge of the key minder actuator, causing the key to become difficult to remove from the ignition lock cylinder. Material that has been shaved from the key can also get into the ignition lock cylinder causing interference with the operation of the tumblers and tumbler springs.
CORRECTION:
Replace the ignition lock cylinder using new tumblers and tumbler springs. (Make sure to maintain same key code.) Refer to the procedures in the "Keys and Locks" section of the "1991 - 1994 Body/Collision Service Manual." Also replace any keys which show evidence of worn plating.
