M/T - Stuck In Two Gears
BULLETIN NO.: 94-T-27ISSUE DATE: June 1994
GROUP/SEQ. NO.: Transaxle-03
CORPORATION NO.: 487201R
SUBJECT:
Vehicle Won't Move Due to Transaxle Stuck in Two Gears-MP2/MP3 Manual Transaxles (Replace Shift Control Housing)
MODELS AFFECTED:
1994 Saturns equipped with MP2 or MP3 manual transaxles built before and including VIN RZ256001.
CONDITION:
Manual transaxle is stuck in two gears at one time (1st and 3rd, 2nd and 4th, 3rd and 5th or 4th and Reverse) and cannot be shifted.
CAUSE:
Some manual transaxles may have been manufactured with a shift control housing that has an excessively wide interlock gap, allowing the manual transaxle to be shifted into two gears at one time when the vehicle is not moving. This prevents the vehicle from moving and the manual transaxle from being shifted.
CORRECTION:
Replace the shift control housing assembly with a new shift control housing assembly, according to "Shift Control Housing" procedures in the "Manual Transaxle In-Vehicle" section of the "Manual Transaxle & Clutch Service Manual." Inspect manual transaxle shift cables for free movement while they are detached from the shift control housing.
IMPORTANT:
The shift control housing assembly must be replaced with a new housing obtained from Saturn Service Parts, with a Pick/Pack/Ship date of 2/22/94 or later. The Pick/Pack/Ship date can be found on the Pick Label next to the Ship Number. These shift control housings have been inspected and verified to have the correct amount of interlock gap. According to SSPO Return Notice dated 2/22/94, all shift control housings (shift towers) shipped prior to 2/22/94 are to be returned to SSPO.
