Antilock Braking System (ABS)

Enable Relay Coil Circuit Open:

Circuit Diagram:

ENABLE RELAY COIL CIRCUIT OPEN
The ABS control module receives battery voltage when the system enable relay contacts are closed. Voltage at this input provides the power source for the three DC motors and two solenoids. If the ABS control module detects a fault in this circuit, it will disable all ABS and turn on the antilock and brake telltale.

CODE PARAMETERS
Code 16 sets if:
^ Enable relay coil circuit is open.
^ This code can set in initialization or with vehicle running and/or moving. It will not set during ABS braking or after a previous test has disabled ABS.
^ If conditions necessary for this code to set occur during ABS braking, it will set code 14.
^ The brake telltale will only light if the rear motor is not in home position.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem, use the Scan tool (select Malfunction History from Scan tool ABS menu) to review supplemental diagnostic information. The supplemental data can be used to duplicate a problem.

Intermittents or opens suspected to be at the connectors can be detected by using a diagnostic service probe. Voltage can be read on wires without disconnecting any connectors.

Check the tightness of the female terminal grip with a spare male terminal.

Circuit 1933 should have battery voltage at all times.
