TURBINE SPEED SENSOR SIGNAL NOISE
Speed signal noise is an irregularity in the normal stream of turbine speed signal pulses. There are three conditions that are identified as noise: Missing pulses in a revolution of the turbine shaft extra pulses in a revolution of the turbine shaft time between pulses too long in comparison to engine speed and output speed.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC 36 is set when the PCM has detected the following conditions for more than 70 milliseconds, twice per ignition cycle.
^ Turbine Speed Noise Parameter status = yes.
^ Turbine speed greater than 1400 rpm.

TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbered steps below refer to numbered steps on chart.
1. This test checks PCM connector for open, spread, corroded terminals or loose wires.
2. This test checks TSS connector for open, spread, corroded terminals or loose wires.
3. This test checks PCM for internal intermittent faults.
4. This step is a visual inspection of the TSS connector and the PCM connector to check for open, spread or corroded terminals.
5. This step checks for secondary ignition wires routed close to TSS circuits 1230 and 1231 and lists other potential causes.

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
When attempting to diagnose an intermittent problem use the Scan tool* to review supplemental diagnostic information. The supplemental data can be used to duplicate a problem.

*Select MALF History from Scan tool Transmission Control Module (TCM) menu.

Check the tightness of the female terminal grip with a spare male terminal.
^ Check wire routing for possible chafed wires.
