SUBJECT:
Automatic Transaxle Fluid Leak at the Automatic Transaxle Oil Pressure Filter (Install New Oil Pressure Filter)

Due to revisions in the VIN break and added information, this bulletin supercedes bulletin 95-T-09, which should be discarded.

Changes are noted by asterisks.

MODELS AFFECTED:
* 1995 Saturns equipped with MP6/MP7 automatic transaxles built before and including VIN SZ269990.*

CONDITION:
Some customers may comment on an automatic transaxle fluid leak. Diagnosis may identify the leak to be coming from the oil pressure filter where it contacts the automatic transaxle case * or at the bottom crimp of the oil pressure filter.*

CAUSE:
* This condition may be caused by a leak at the automatic transaxle pressure filter crimp * or by an interference between the oil pressure filter and the automatic transaxle magnet that has been added to the oil pressure filter fitting.

CORRECTION:
In most cases, the leak can be corrected by installing a new oil pressure filter. When installing a new oil pressure filter, turn the oil pressure filter onto the fitting until the oil pressure filter seal makes contact with the automatic transaxle case. After contact, tighten the oil pressure filter one full turn.

* On vehicle built between VINs SZ190218 and SZ236845, if the oil pressure filter cannot be turned one full turn after contact with the transaxle case, return the oil pressure filter, remove and discard the automatic transaxle magnet, and reinstall the oil pressure filter.*

IMPORTANT:
If it is necessary to discard the automatic transaxle magnet, note in the "Comments" section of the customer service order that the automatic transaxle magnet has been removed.
