Hard to Start

HARD START - Definition: Engine cranks fine but does not start immediately. Does eventually run, or may start but stalls immediately.


Check:
^ Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor for evidence of being shifted.
^ Manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor for proper operation.
^ Throttle position (TP) sensor for operation through all ranges.
^ Fuel system and fuel quality.
^ Ignition system.
^ Idle air control (IAC).
^ Engine mechanical problems (e.g., low compression, sticking lifters, worn valve train).
^ Carbon deposits.
