Horn: Description and Operation
The horn system consists of an electronic horn, two driver controlled horn switches in the steering wheel, a switch internal to the Remote Keyless Entry RKE module controlled by a hand held transmitter, and the interconnecting wiring. The steering wheel switch activated horn system is designed to provide the driver with an audible warning to signal pedestrians, other drivers, etc. The hand held transmitter activated horn system is designed to provide the driver with an audible confirmation when the LOCK button is pressed on the transmitter.Circuit Description
Battery is provided to the horn at all times from the HORN fuse in the UHJB through circuit 1540. Ground is provided at all times through circuits 150H, 150Z, and the left forward lamp ground. Circuit 28 carries battery at all times from the horn to the steering wheel horn switches and the RKE module. Circuit 28 is grounded when LOCK button is pressed on the RKE transmitter, or one or both of the steering wheel horn switches is pressed. This provides a signal to a circuit board inside the horn. The circuit board then switches battery from circuit 1540 to ground, causing the horn to sound.
