Servicing Remanufactured Engine Assemblies
Important:Whenever servicing a Saturn remanufactured engine assembly, record the serial number on the CSO and in the Tech Comments field of the electronic record:
METHOD OF DETERMINING REMANUFACTURING SPECIFICATIONS:
1. Determine if the engine is remanufactured: Raise the hood and, with a flashlight, look for the yellow Mylar sticker located in the lower area of the bell housing flange - on the exhaust side of the engine (thermostat side).
2. The sticker shown contains information about the remanufactured engine such as part number, serial number, and size of the bearings and piston bores.
3. This is how to read the sticker:
> Left top corner: P/N (8 digits) - shows Part Number (Saturn Service Parts number)
> Below P/N: S/N (6 digits) - shows remanufactured Serial Number (unique for each engine)
> CRANK MAINS - the place of the punched hole shows the size of ALL main bearings - There are four sizes: Standard or 0.012 / 0.025 / 0.250 mm undersize (0.250 mm is undersize limit;)
> CRANK RODS - the place of the punched hole shows the size of ALL connecting rod bearings - There are four sizes: Standard or 0.012 / 0.025 / 0.250 mm undersize (0.250 mm is undersize limit)
> CYL BORES the place of the punched hole shows the size of ALL the bores/pistons - There are three sizes: Standard or 0.125 / 0.400 mm oversize (0.400 mm is oversize limit)
4. If the remanufactured engine is repairable, use the correct size (or next size if the engine has not been remanufactured to the size limit) bearings for the crank and rods, or pistons and rings as indicated on the sticker.
CAUTION:
INSURE INTAKE AND EXHAUST MANIFOLDS ARE CLEAN PRIOR TO INSTALLATION OF ENGINE OR HEAD!
VERY IMPORTANT NOTE:
To receive credit for the core, you MUST fully complete the YELLOW Core Tag and process the fully assembled core for return to the SSPO core return center. Core tags and core assemblies will be checked for completeness and, if not, the core will be returned at retailer's expense.
