Console: Service and Repair






REMOVAL
1. Remove screws and remove arm rest, if equipped.
2. Lift parking brake lever.





3. Remove screw.
4. Remove parking brake cover by lifting straight off lever.





5. Move shifter to neutral. Remove ashtray from cup holder by lifting straight out.
6. Remove cup holder from console by pulling upwards starting at rear edge.
7. Remove ashtray bulb socket by lifting tab while sliding socket forward. Then pull socket straight out.





8. Remove wiring harness from cup holder.





9. Remove window/mirror switch, if equipped, by sliding switch forward then lifting at rear edge. Disconnect electrical connectors.





10. If vehicle does not have an arm rest, remove rear screw cover by lifting at cut out.
11. Remove rear console screws.





12. Remove left and right lower trim panel extensions by pulling outward at dual lock locations. Then rotate panels outward to disengage hinges from console.





13. Remove front console screws.
14. Move console rearward.
15. Disconnect cigarette lighter electrical connector.
16. Remove bulb socket from cigarette lighter by rotating clockwise and pulling straight out.





17. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, tape shifter button in to clear shifter opening.
18. Lift console at rear. Slide console rearward and lift straight up to remove.

INSTALLATION
1. Place shifter in neutral.
2. Lower front of console over shifter.
3. Lower rear of console over parking brake lever onto rear mounting pad.

NOTE: Make sure to place window/mirror and ashtray light connectors through openings into position.

4. Move console rearward.
5. Install cigarette lighter bulb through opening and rotate counterclockwise.
6. Connect cigarette lighter electrical connector.
7. Move console forward into position.

NOTE: Make sure upper tabs on front of console engage sheet metal on lower I/P brace.

8. Install and tighten front console screws.
^ Torque to 1.2 Nm (11 inch lbs.)
9. Install left and right lower trim panel extensions by inserting hinges into console openings. Then rotate closed and push in at dual lock locations.
10. For vehicles with console armrest:
a. Align rear of console with pin on mounting pad.
b. Install and tighten screws.
^ Torque to 1.6 Nm (14 inch lbs.)
c. Install screw cover.
11. Connect window/mirror switch electrical connectors.
12. Install window/mirror switch by inserting front edge into opening. Then push rear edge down into position.
13. Insert bulb through opening until bulb socket is flush with cup holder. Push socket down to engage lock tab.
14. Install wiring harness to cup holder.
15. Install cup holder by inserting through console opening and pushing straight down.
16. Install parking brake cover over lever.
17. Install and tighten screw.
^ Torque to 1.6 Nm (14 inch lbs.)

CAUTION: Do not overtighten screw or it will pull through cover.


18. Install arm rest unit into console, if equipped. Install and tighten screws.

^ Torque to 1.6 Nm (14 inch lbs.)
