Cylinder Repair Procedures

Front Side Door Lock Cylinder Removal - Driver and Passenger Doors - All Vehicles





1. Remove front door outer panel. (Refer to "Front Door Outer Panel - Sedan/Wagon," or "Front Door Outer Panel - Coupe" in the "Doors" section of the "1997 Body/Repair Service Manual.")

2. Partially remove door sound deadener panel at rear of door.

3. Disconnect front side door lock cylinder rod from front side door lock cylinder.

4. Remove front side door lock cylinder retainer and remove front side door lock cylinder from door.

5. Repeat steps 1 through 4 for remaining front side door lock cylinder.

6. To disassembly front side door lock cylinders, refer to "Front Side Door Lock Cylinder Disassembly - All Vehicles" in "Lock Cylinder Disassembly Procedures" included in this bulletin.

Liftgate Lock Cylinder Removal - Wagon

1. Remove liftgate lower molding assembly. (Refer to "Liftgate Inner Lower Panel Assembly - Wagon" in the "Vehicle Interior Systems" section of the "1997 Body/Repair Service Manual.")





2. Disconnect liftgate lock actuator cable assembly from liftgate lock cylinder.

3. Remove liftgate lock cylinder retainer, liftgate lock cylinder reinforcement and liftgate lock cylinder from liftgate.

4. To disassembly liftgate lock cylinder, refer to "Liftgate and Rear Compartment Lock Cylinder Disassembly" in "Lock Cylinder Disassembly Procedures" included in this bulletin.

Rear Compartment Lock Cylinder Removal - Sedan/Coupe

1. Remove rear compartment lid outer lower panel. (Refer to "Compartment Lid Outer Panel" procedure for Sedan or "Rear Compartment Lid Outer Panel" procedure for Coupe, in the "Rear End" section of the "1997 Body/Repair Service Manual.")





2. Remove rear compartment lid lock cylinder retainer from rear compartment lock cylinder.

3. Disconnect rear compartment lock cylinder rod from clip on rear compartment lock cylinder.

4. Remove rear compartment lock cylinder.

5. To disassembly rear compartment lock cylinder, refer to "Liftgate and Rear Compartment Lock Cylinder Disassembly" in the "Lock Cylinder Disassembly Procedures" included in this bulletin.

Ignition Lock Cylinder - All Vehicles





1. Remove steering column lower trim cover bolts.

2. Remove upper steering column shroud.

3. Insert ignition key into ignition lock cylinder and rotate ignition key to ACC position.





4. Depress the square locking button on the top of ignition lock cylinder module, and slide ignition lock cylinder assembly from ignition lock cylinder module.

5. To disassembly ignition lock cylinder, refer to "Ignition Lock Cylinder Disassembly" in the "Lock Cylinder Disassembly Procedures" included in this bulletin.
