Frontal SIR System Remove or Disconnect
IMPORTANT: In the event deployment has occurred, inspect coil assembly wire for any signs of scorching, melting or other damage due to excessive heat. If the coil has :en damaged, it must be replaced.NOTICE: If a Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) is dropped or shows any signs of damage, replace SDM.
NOTICE: Prior to removal of the SDM, the ignition key must be in the OFF position for 10 minutes (refer to Disabling and Enabling Precautions).
REMOVAL
1. Disable the SIR system. (Refer to "Air Bag(s) Arming and Disarming.")
2. Lift parking brake lever.
3. Remove screw.
4. Remove parking brake cover by lifting straight off lever.
5. Move shifter to neutral. Remove ashtray from cup holder by lifting straight out.
6. Remove cup holder from console by pulling upwards starting at rear edge.
7. Remove ashtray bulb socket by lifting tab while sliding socket upwards. Then pull socket straight out.
8. Remove wiring harness from cup holder.
9. Remove window/mirror switch, if equipped, by sliding switch forward then lifting at rear edge. Disconnect electrical connectors.
10. Remove rear screw cover by lifting at cut out.
11. Remove rear console screws.
12. If equipped with center console/arm rest, remove center console/arm rest from center console.
13. Remove left and right lower trim panel extensions by pulling outward at dual lock locations. Then rotate panels outward to disengage hinges from console.
14. Remove front console screws.
15. Move console rearward.
16. Remove bulb socket from cigarette lighter by rotating counter clockwise and pulling straight out.
17. Disconnect cigarette lighter electrical connector.
18. On automatic transmission equipped vehicles, tape shifter button in to clear shifter opening.
19. Lift console at rear. Slide console rearward and lift straight up to remove.
20. Remove connector position assurance (CPA) device and disconnect SDM.
21. Remove SDM bolts and remove SDM.
