Internal Engine Cleaning Products

MODELS AFFECTED:
All Saturn Vehicles

PURPOSE:
This bulletin is intended to clarify Saturn's recommendation
concerning the use of internal engine cleaning products and engine cleaning systems on all engines installed in Saturn vehicles.

All engines used in Saturn vehicles are tested extensively under a variety of operating conditions that simulate a wide range of customer use. These tests are conducted using engine oil meeting the same Society of Automotive Engineering (SAE) standards as the original engine oil used during the manufacturing process as well as that recommended by Saturn and specified in the Owner's Handbook for routine maintenance.

Specific tests have been performed to determine the required oil performance characteristics and recommended oil change intervals, which are based on engine wear and oil degradation. These recommendations are published in the Saturn Owner's Handbook.

The use of internal engine cleaning equipment or the addition of any material to the engine other than engine oil is not necessary, recommended, or endorsed.

Saturn Corporation does not test all the possible combinations of fluids or cleaning equipment that could be used, or the affect of those fluids or cleaning equipment on engine oil and/or engine wear.

Saturn vehicle owners should continue to maintain their vehicles in accordance with the maintenance schedules published in the Saturn Owner's Handbook.
