Sunroof Drive Cables

SUNROOF DRIVE CABLES

REMOVAL

1. Remove headliner. Refer to "Headliner Removal" procedure.






2. Remove sunroof glass. Refer to "Sunroof Glass Assembly Removal" procedure.

3. Lower sunroof to closed position, manually using a large flat screwdriver in sunroof motor slot.







4. Remove sunroof actuator (motor). Refer to "Sunroof Actuator (Motor) Removal" procedure.






5. From above vehicle, remove left and right side sunroof cable locator block fasteners and remove locator blocks.






6. Using needle nose pliers, lift drive cable end out of guide assembly and pull cables out of sunroof cable tubes while holding cable tubes in position.

IMPORTANT: If the sunroof was locked in the open position, it may be necessary to partially remove the copper cable tubes to pull the guide forward and expose the cable end. If tubes are disturbed, it will be necessary to re-seal the cable tubing pass through holes by working the sealer.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT: Cables should be replaced if they are kinked, and cables should always be replaced in pairs.

1. While holding cable tubes in position, push sunroof cables into tubes, being careful not to kink cables.






2. Engage cables into guides with the cam sides of the cable ends positioned as shown in the illustration. In the proper orientation, the lobes of the cam end of the cable are aligned diagonally from the inboard top to inboard bottom of the square-shaped guide channel.

3. Using the installed cables, push the guides rearward to verify proper orientation of the cam end. If the orientation is correct, the cam end will slide into the guide channel, otherwise it will hang up at the entrance to the guide channel.

NOTICE: It may be necessary to pull several inches of cable through the tubing in order to rotate the cable end.

4. Install left and right side locator blocks.






5. From inside the vehicle, place the flared ends of the copper and black plastic cable tubing into the notches at the sunroof actuator (motor) location.

6. Install sunroof motor. Refer to "Sunroof Actuator (Motor) Installation" procedure.






NOTICE: Before installing the glass, confirm that cable tubing pass through hole is sealed, and that no sealer is penetrating the pass through hole as this can restrict the water drainage system.

7. Install sunroof glass. Refer to "Sunroof Glass Installation" procedure.

8. Check sunroof for proper operation before installing headliner.

9. Install headliner. Refer to "Headliner Installation" procedure.
