Liquid Line
REMOVAL
1. Recover refrigerant using an approved refrigerant recovery system.
2. Disconnect negative battery cable.
3. Disconnect positive battery cable.
4. Remove the hold-down retaining nut and screws and lift off battery hold-down retainer.
5. Remove air cleaner housing cover and air induction hose at intake manifold.
6. Remove underhood junction block cover.
7. Disconnect electrical harness from the pressure sensor.
8. Remove the bolt holding liquid line to thermal expansion valve (TXV).
WARNING: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
9. Raise vehicle.
10. Remove push nut and pull back receiver-dehydrator splash shield.
11. Disconnect liquid line from receiver-dehydrator.
12. Lower vehicle.
13. Remove liquid line from hold down clamps, lift receiver-dehydrator end of liquid line clear of underhood junction block.
14. Lift and rotate TXV end of liquid line counter clockwise to remove from vehicle.
15. Remove pressure sensor from liquid line.
INSTALLATION
NOTICE: Use only R-12 Refrigerant oil (mineral) to lubricate O-rings. Use of R-134a (PAG) oil will cause premature corrosion of fitting joints.
1. Remove protective cover from liquid line switch port and lubricate O-ring.
2. Install pressure switch to liquid line and torque to specifications.
Torque: 5.5 N.m (49 in.lbs.)
3. Place tape around protective cover on TXV end of liquid line to keep cover from falling off during installation.
a. Hold liquid line as shown. Use pressure switch as a frame of reference.
b. Lower TXV end of line down behind the left strut tower against the cowl.
IMPORTANT: Make sure line is behind the clutch slave cylinder hose if equipped with manual transaxle.
4. Rotate line clockwise while feeding line under and behind the brake booster.
5. Continue feeding line along cowl towards the °V while lowering receiver drier end down to radiator support.
6. Lower liquid line past wiring harness and hood release cable.
7. Lower hood support rod.
a. Move receiver drier end of line around hood support rod and fuse box.
CAUTION: Do not bend line around hood support rod. After lowering rod, gently flex line around the radiator core support.
b. Insert drier end of line through body cut out.
IMPORTANT: Install liquid line in front clamp located just behind the pressure switch.
8. Remove tape and protective cover from TXV end of liquid line.
NOTICE: Use only R-12 Refrigerant oil (mineral) to lubricate O-rings. Use of R-134a (PAG) oil will cause premature corrosion of fitting joints.
a. Lubricate O-ring with Saturn R-l2 mineral refrigerant oil.
b. Install line and bolt to TXV.
Torque bolt to: 25 N.m (19 ft-lbs)
WARNING: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY WHEN A VEHICLE IS ON A HOIST, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT FOR THE VEHICLE ON THE OPPOSITE END FROM WHICH COMPONENTS ARE BEING REMOVED.
9. Raise vehicle.
NOTICE: Use only R-12 Refrigerant oil (mineral) to lubricate O-rings. Use of R-134a (PAG) oil will cause premature corrosion of fitting joints.
10. Remove protective cover and lubricate O-ring with Saturn R-12 mineral refrigerant oil.
11. Connect liquid line to receiver-dehydrator. Tighten fitting.
Torque: 14 N.m (124 in.lbs.)
12. Rotate receiver-dehydrator splash shield into place and install push nut.
13. Lower vehicle.
14. Connect the electrical harness to the pressure sensor.
15. Install underhood junction block cover and hand tighten the screw.
16. Install battery hold-down retainer, locking the battery into the tray.
17. Install the hold-down retainer nut and screws.
Torque: 9 N.m (80 in.lbs.)
18. Install air cleaner housing cover and air induction hose.
19. Connect positive battery cable first.
Torque: 17 N.m (151 in.lbs.)
20. Connect negative battery cable last.
Torque: 17 N.m (151 in.lbs.)
21. Evacuate, charge, and leak test A/C system.
22. Set clock to proper time if equipped.
