Lock Cylinder Coding Procedures - All Lock Cylinders

1. Remove key from lock cylinder.





IMPORTANT:
When the lock cylinder tumblers are removed from the lock cylinder, lock cylinder tumbler springs and lock cylinder sidebar may fall out.

2. Using a thin-bladed screwdriver, push lock cylinder tumblers out of lock cylinder.

3. Select the correct lock cylinder tumblers for the key code, by the number stamped on the lock cylinder tumbler. The vehicle's key code can be obtained by:

a. Accessing the "Vehicle Information Management System" in EDSNet.

b. Select "Sales" at the "Main Menu."

c. Select "Key Code Inquiry" at the "Sales Order Management Main Menu."

d. A message stating "Please enter the last eight (8) digits of V.I.N" will be displayed.

I. The cursor will be located at the first position of the last eight digits of the VIN.

II. Type the last eight digits of the VIN and press enter.

III. The entire VIN, the merchandising model description, and the key code will be displayed. (Refer to Field Information Bulletin 95-F-04A for further information.)

IMPORTANT:
If "Key Code Inquiry" is the only transaction under the "Sales" option, the system will bypass the "Sales Menu" screen and execute the "Key Code Inquiry" screen.





4. Refer to the following "Replacement Key Codes" list to obtain new key code.

a. Look up the old key code.

b. Re-code the lock cylinders with the replacement key code listed in the "Replacement Key Codes" list.

IMPORTANT:
Key codes in the 1991-1997 Saturn Key Code Manual are not in numerical order.

^ Ignition lock cylinder reads key cut position 2 through 10.

^ Front side door, liftgate and rear compartment lock cylinders reads key cut positions 5 through 10.

5. Refer to 1991 - 1997 Saturn Key Code Manual for tumbler numbers of new key code referenced in "Replacement Key Codes" list.





6. If necessary, install lock cylinder tumbler springs and lock cylinder sidebar into lock cylinder. (Lock cylinder tumbler springs and lock cylinder sidebar may have fallen out of lock cylinder during step 2 of this procedure.)

7. Install lock cylinder tumblers into lock cylinder, by applying downward pressure until lock cylinder tumblers lock into place.

8. Cut two new keys based on the new key code of the lock cylinders.

a. Look up code in Key Code Book.





b. Cut the corresponding sequence, using cut position 2 through 10.

9. To check lock cylinder coding of the lock cylinder, insert key into lock cylinder.

^ If lock cylinder coding is correct, lock cylinder tumblers and lock cylinder sidebar will be flush with cylinder.

^ If lock cylinder tumblers and lock cylinder sidebar are not flush with cylinder, verify that coding is correct.

10. Before assembly, oil lock cylinder set with a light oil or graphite lubricant.

11. Repeat steps 1 through 7 and steps 9 and 10 for remaining lock cylinders.
