Transmission Speed Sensor: Description and Operation
The transaxle input shaft speed sensor is a permanent magnet (PM) generator mounted near the pressure filter on the transaxle ease. The sensor produces a pulsing voltage whenever turbine shaft speed is above 250 rpm. These pulses occur eight times per each turbine shaft revolution and are translated to provide turbine shaft speed in rpm.The PCM uses transaxle input speed sensor to compare engine rpm and vehicle speed. By comparing the input shaft speed the PCM can accurately identify inaccurate ratios such as clutch slippage, lack of pressure, etc.
