Removal

REMOVAL
1. Disconnect negative battery cable.
2. Remove power steering pump reservoir fill cap.

CAUTION: MAKE SURE VEHICLE IS PROPERLY SUPPORTED AND SQUARELY POSITIONED ON HOIST. TO HELP AVOID PERSONAL INJURY, PROVIDE ADDITIONAL SUPPORT TO THE OPPOSITE END OF THE VEHICLE THAT COMPONENTS WILL BE REMOVED FROM.

3. Raise vehicle on hoist.





4. Place approved drain container under power steering hoses at steering gear.
5. Unclip power steering hoses from the steering gear.

IMPORTANT: After removing power steering hoses from gear, do not rotate steering wheel since fluid will be forced out of gear.

6. Remove power steering hoses from steering gear and allow system to drain.





7. Use a box end wrench, relieve spring tension from accessory drive belt tensioner; remove belt from power steering pump pulley.

NOTICE: Do not remove attachment bracket bolts from the pump assembly. Do not remove the lower tubular support bracket from the intake manifold.





8. Remove the pump bracket attachment fasteners to the cylinder head and engine block.





9. On vehicles equipped with variable assist, lift the pump slightly and disconnect Electronic Variable Orifice (EVO) electrical connector.
10. Remove pump (with hoses) from vehicle.





11. Remove pressure and return hoses from pump.
