Operation CHARM: Car repair manuals for everyone.

Installation

1. Lube solenoid O-rings.
2. If replacing the line pressure or Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) solenoid valves, install a first design solenoid (1) using a twisting motion. First design solenoids have a maroon colored top.
3. If replacing the 2nd, 3rd, or 4th solenoid valves, install a second design solenoid (2) using a twisting motion. Second design solenoids have a white top, and a filter indicated by the arrow in the illustration.

4. Check connector plate terminals with a #43 (2.25 mm) drill bit. There should be a slight drag on the shank. If there is no drag replace the connector plate.
5. Align the solenoid pins to the connector plate.
6. Install the connector plate.
7. Install the solenoid cover.

IMPORTANT: Clean and lubricate fasteners with Saturn Transaxle Fluid. Wipe off excess fluid. The dowel bolts must be placed in the holes shown to align the upper valve body to the lower valve body. The solenoids are identified below:
1) Pressure control
2) 2nd
3) Torque Converter Clutch (TCC)
4) 4th
5) 3rd

8. Install the solenoid cover bolts and finger tighten.

NOTICE: Over-torquing bolts can cause valves to bind.

9. Torque solenoid cover bolts using torque sequence shown in illustration.

Torque: 11 Nm (97 inch lbs.)

IMPORTANT: Using the service stall system, reset the adaptives before driving vehicle if the line pressure solenoid was replaced.

10. Install valve body cover. (Refer to "Valve Body Installation" procedures.)
