Cigar Lighter
GENERAL INFORMATIONThe cigar lighter is a convenience item which utilizes the principle of resistance heating to heat a metallic winding to a temperature hot enough to ignite a cigar or cigarette.
OPERATION
Voltage is applied at all times to the cigar lighter, directly from the battery (through a 20 amp fuse).
When the cigar lighter handle is pushed in to its detent position, an electric circuit is completed through the high resistance winding of the cigar lighter. Current flows through the circuit to the winding inside the cigar lighter, to the cigar lighter shell, to ground. When the cigar lighter latching device heats by way of conduction to a calculated temperature, the bi-metal latch releases the knob assembly and returns it to its original position. This causes the circuit to open and the current flow to cease.
