SIR DRIVER/PASSENGER LOAD TOOL

The SIR driver/passenger load tool SA 9409Z is used as a diagnostic aid and safety device to prevent inadvertent inflator module deployment.

The load tool has three yellow connectors and one black connector attached to its case. The three small connectors are electrically functional and serve as resistive load substitutions. The large dummy connector does not serve as a load substitution but merely takes the physical place of the SDM connector when needed. Kit SA 9508Z contains the SDM connector for 1997 vehicles. The kit also includes an instruction sheet on how to attach the connector to the load tool, SA 9409Z, an adhesive label to help identify the 1995 SDM connector, and two adhesive labels to update the load tool to part number SA 9409Z-A.

Two of the small connectors are used to substitute the load of the inflator modules. Another small connector is used to substitute the load of the SIR coil wire when it is connected at the base of the column to the vehicle harness. The large dummy connector separates the shorting bar in the SDM harness connector when it is connected to it in place of the SDM.

By substituting the resistance of the load tool when called for, a determination can be made as to whether a component is causing system faults and which component is causing the fault. The load tool should be used only when specifically called for in the diagnostic procedures.

SATURN REPAIR KIT

Essential Tool Kit SA 9138Z contains special "Sealed Splices" for use in repairing SIR system wiring. A special crimping tool, heat torch and instruction manual for these splices are also included.

Two critical features of the sealed splices are special heat shrink sleeve with sealed splice and crosshatched (knurled) core crimp to provide necessary contact integrity for the sensitive. low energy circuits. The Saturn repair kit SA 9138Z also serves as a generic repair kit.

Terminals are not to be used to replace damaged SIR system terminals unless specifically indicated by the terminal package.
