Visual Inspection - Battery

Check for obvious damage such as a cracked or broken case or cover. If obvious damage is noted, replace the battery.

Make sure the terminals and leads are not loose or corroded.

Check for cross threaded terminals. If the terminal(s) are found to be cross threaded:
1. Clean out excess material left from the bolt in the battery lug threads using a small pick. (The battery lug is made of a much harder material than the bolt.)

NOTE: Do not use a tap to remove excess material from the lug terminal(s) or battery damage could result.

2. Replace the battery bolt and thread in by hand then torque.

Torque: 17 N^m (151 in-lbs)

NOTE: Make sure that the negative battery cable is correctly routed and aligned to the tabs where it attaches to the body. Failure to correctly route or attach the negative battery cable to the body attachment point could cause the cable to break with continued vehicle operation.
