Rear Wipers

WINDOW RELAY
The window, rr defog, fog lamp and A/C relays are interchangeable with each other.

Substitute another relay to see if the problem is fixed.

Repair/replace as needed.

REAR WIPER SWITCH (Wagon)
Refer to Turn Signals/Combination Switch for Lever Combination Switch (LCS) testing.

Repair/replace as needed.

REAR WIPER MOTOR
Check the circuits, connectors, and terminals that are attached to the wiper motor.

Check for OPENS/SHORTS.

Wiper module should not be tested out of vehicle, it must be connected to the wiper switch to work properly. The wiper internal control circuitry and motor are serviced as one unit and should not be taken apart.

Repair is by replacement only.

If a new rear wiper motor is installed and the compliant is fixed, install the old motor to verify that the problem was the motor. If the complaint does not appear again, check the terminals and connections for damage, corrosion, and terminal tightness.

REAR WASHER PUMP
Check the circuits, connectors, and terminals that are attached to the rear washer pump.

Disconnect rear washer pump and connect a DVOM between the two terminals (1 and 2) of the harness connector. With ignition in RUN, activate the rear wash switch.
- If battery voltage is measured, all of the circuits and the switch are OK. Replace the rear washer pump.
- If battery voltage is not measured, check the circuits and switch for OPENS/SHORTS.

Check for OPENS/SHORTS

Repair/replace as needed.

If a new pump is installed and the compliant is fixed, install the old pump to verify that the problem was the pump. If the complaint does not appear again, check the terminals and connections for damage, corrosion, and terminal tightness.

MISCELLANEOUS
Excessive noise can be caused by over-torque of the wiper module fasteners. Over-torquing the fasteners sometimes causes the wiper bracket to contact the car sheet metal. Metal-to-metal contact provides a path for noise to propagate.

Inspect the grommets that separate the rear wiper motor and car sheet metal to see if there is any metal-to-metal contact. If the grommet is torn replace it. If the grommet is compressed to tightly loosen the bolts to eliminate any metal-to-metal contact.
