Stop Lamp Switch
Before replacing stop lamp switch, check stop lamp switch adjustment. With the brake depressed, the switch contacts that input a signal to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) should be open (no continuity). With the brake released, the switch contacts should be closed (continuity). The stop lamp switch can be adjusted by loosening the bolt and sliding it towards, or away from the brake pedal. The plunger should be fully depressed with the brake pedal released. A Scan tool can be used to check the signal from the switch as seen by the PCM.
