Installation
1. Clean gasket surfaces and install the shift housing gasket to case.NOTICE: Make sure the shift housing is completely down on case before installing bolts. Torquing bolts on a misaligned housing will damage the case.
IMPORTANT: Clean and lubricate fastener with Saturn Transaxle Fluid. Wipe off excess fluid and install.
2. Install the shifter housing assembly on case.
Torque: 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.)
3. Connect back-up light switch electrical connector.
4. Install battery tray.
5. Torque battery tray bolts.
Torque: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
6. Make sure battery tray is clean.
7. Make sure that the battery cable ends are clean and free of corrosion. (Clean with a wire brush.)
8. Make sure that the battery is in good physical condition (e.g., no cracks, or obvious damage) and that the terminals are clean.
9. Install battery carefully in the battery tray; make sure that the terminals do not short against any metal during the installation.
10. Install battery hold-down retainer (3), locking the battery into the tray. Install and tighten the hold-down retainer nut (1) and screws (2).
Torque: 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.)
11. Install the positive battery cable first.
Torque: 17 Nm (151 inch lbs.)
12. Install the negative battery cable last.
Torque: 17 Nm (151 inch lbs.)
13. Install air induction system. [Double Overhead Cam (DOHC) shown, Single Overhead Camshaft (SOHC) similar.]
