The stoplamp switch indicates brake pedal status to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). The stoplamp switch is normally open. Battery voltage is supplied to the PCM at terminal J1-35 when brake is applied. A Scan tool should display APPLIED when brake pedal is depressed and should read RELEASED with brake pedal released.

DTC PARAMETERS
DTC P0719 will set if the PCM detects an open brake switch or circuit (0 volts) during vehicle deceleration and the following conditions occur six times:
^ Vehicle speed is greater than 32 km/h (20 mph) for 6 seconds;
^ then, the vehicle speed is 8-32 km/h (5-20 mph) for 4 seconds;
^ then, the vehicle speed is less than 8 km/h (5 mph).

DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
This DTC could set by a customer who comes to a complete stop without using the foot brake.

A blown BRAKE/PARKLOCK fuse will cause a DTC P0719 to set.
