9. Timing Chain and Tensioner Removal


REMOVAL





1. Remove upper timing chain guide.

IMPORTANT: The timing chain tensioner must be removed to unload chain tension before the timing chain is removed. If it is not, the timing chain will become cocked and it will be difficult to remove.





2. Remove timing chain tensioner plunger.

IMPORTANT: Do not allow any load to timing chain when loosening camshaft sprocket bolt.





3. Remove exhaust cam sprocket using a 24 mm open end wrench to hold camshaft in place while loosening camshaft sprocket bolt. Discard bolt.





4. Remove adjustable timing chain guide.





5. Remove plug to gain access to fixed timing chain guide bolt.





6. Remove fixed timing chain guide.





7. Remove intake cam sprocket timing chain through top of cylinder head.





8. Remove crankshaft sprocket.





9. Remove oiling nozzle.
