Water Pump: Service and Repair



^ TOOLS REQUIRED
- J-43651 Water Pump Sprocket Holding Tool

REMOVAL

1. Disconnect negative battery cable.





2. Remove air inlet tube and air cleaner assembly.
3. Drain coolant.





4. Remove exhaust manifold heat shield.

IMPORTANT: Twist water feed pipe while pulling to remove it from water pump.





5. Remove thermostat and water feed assembly bolts.





6. Remove water pump sprocket access plate from front cover.





7. Use the bolts removed from the sprocket access plate and install the J 43651.





8. Remove the water pump sprocket bolts.

IMPORTANT: Be sure to remove retaining bolt that is accessed from front of engine block.

9. Remove the water pump retaining bolts.
10. Remove the water pump assembly.

INSTALLATION

NOTICE: Prior to installing the water pump read the entire procedure. Pay special attention to avoid part damage and to ensure proper sealing.





1. Install water pump assembly.
2. Install water pump bolts. Initially finger tighten bolts

Tighten
Tighten the water pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 lb ft).





3. Install the water pump sprocket and retaining bolts.

Tighten
Tighten the water pump sprocket to water pump bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).

4. Remove the J 43651.
5. Install the water pump sprocket access plate.
6. Install the water feed tube.
7. Lubricate the feed tube O-ring with silicone gel lubricant.
8. Install the water feed tube by twisting and pushing it toward the water pump. Take care not to tear or damage the O-ring.
9. Install the thermostat housing to block bolts.







Tighten
Tighten the thermostat housing to block bolts to 10 Nm (89 lb in).







10. Install the exhaust manifold heat shield.

11. Install the air cleaner assembly and the air inlet tube.
12. Connect the negative battery cable.

Tighten
Tighten the battery terminal bolts to 17 Nm (13 lb ft).

13. Add the coolant.
