Service Information Regarding Redesigned Oil Filter Element and Oil Filter Cap
PURPOSE: The purpose of this bulletin is to provide service information regarding 1st and 2nd design oil filter elements and oil filter caps available for the 4-cyl (L61) engine, and how to determine which oil filter and cap combination should be used.
WARNING: If an incorrect oil filter element or oil filter and cap combination is used, severe engine damage may occur.
A change has been made to the oil filter cap and oil filter element assembly to prevent the installation of the V6 (L81) oil filter into the 4-cyl engine assembly.
When installing a new oil filter element, always attach (snap) the oil filter element onto the oil filter cap assembly before installing the oil filter assembly into the oil filter housing/block. This will confirm the correct oil filter element and oil filter cap combination is being used.
NOTICE: If the oil filter element does not attach (snap) into the oil filter cap, DO NOT install into the oil filter housing/block or engine damage may occur. Refer to application chart in this bulletin for correct oil filter cap and oil filter element usage.
