Wheel Bearing/Hub Assembly
FRONT WHEEL BEARINGS/HUB1. Using large driver (part number 7), press in new bearing as shown in illustration until seated.
2. Install bearing retainer snap ring.
IMPORTANT: When performing this operation, small driver (part number 6) must be used to support bearing inner race with its small (pilot) side facing towards press, away from bearing.
3. Press in hub using part numbers:
- 5 - Knuckle support tube
- 6 - Small driver
INSTALLATION
1. Position steering knuckle onto axle shaft and install axle to hub washer and a new nut.
IMPORTANT: Do not tighten fastener at this time.
2. Attach steering knuckle to strut assembly using new bolts and nuts.
IMPORTANT: Do not tighten fastener at this time.
3. Install the ball stud through the knuckle attachment point and install bolt and nut.
4. Tighten steering knuckle to strut assembly fasteners in the following sequence.
Torque: 50 Nm (40 ft. lbs.), then tighten to 90 Nm (65 ft. lbs.) + 45 degrees
5. Tighten ball stud fastener.
Torque: 100 Nm (75 ft. lbs.)
IMPORTANT: Tie rod ends must be thoroughly cleaned before tightening nut.
6. Using linkage installer J44015 (or equivalent) install the tie rod end into the steering knuckle.
Torque: 45 Nm (35 ft. lbs.)
NOTICE: Use new nut; Torque retention of old nut may not be sufficient.
7. Remove the linkage installer and install a new nut.
Torque: 60 Nm (45 ft. lbs.)
8. If equipped with ABS, install sensor mounting bracket and sensor.
Torque: 8 Nm (71 inch lbs.)
9. Install dust shield and tighten screws.
Torque: 4 Nm (35 inch lbs.)
10. Install rotor and tighten rotor screw.
Torque: 3.5 Nm (27 inch lbs.)
IMPORTANT: Use Loctite 242 Threadlocker (or equivalent) on threads of caliper bracket bolts.
11. Install caliper mount bracket onto knuckle.
Torque: 95 Nm (70 ft. lbs.)
12. Install stabilizer bar link to strut assembly.
Torque: 65 Nm (50 ft. lbs.)
NOTICE: Before installing wheels, remove rust or corrosion from wheel mounting surfaces and brake rotors. Failure to do so can cause wheel bolts to loosen in service.
13. Position wheel onto hub.
14. Tighten in a crisscross pattern Repeat tightening pattern to make sure torque is correct
Torque: 125 Nm (92 ft. lbs.)
15. Lower vehicle from hoist.
16. Depress brake pedal and tighten axle to hub nut in the following sequence:
Torque: Nut to 115 Nm (85 ft. lbs.) to seat the bearing back nut off and retighten to 20 Nm (15 ft. lbs.) using a torque angle gauge turn nut additional 90 degrees. If required, release nut until a cotter hole aligns with castle nut slot.
17. Install cotter
18. Perform vehicle wheel alignment. (Refer to "Wheel Alignment" procedure.)
