SUBJECT:
Squeak Noise Heard During Clutch Pedal Actuation (Lubricate Clutch Pedal Clevis Pin and Clutch Pedal Pivot Points, and If Necessary, Replace Clutch Master and Actuator Cylinder Assembly)
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000-2001 Saturn L-Series Sedans equipped with manual transaxles (RPO M79) built before and including VIN 1Y549739
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment of a squeak noise heard during clutch pedal actuation.
CAUSE:
Inadequate lubrication on the clutch pedal clevis pin or clutch pedal pivot points.
Or, inadequate lubrication within the clutch master and actuator cylinder assembly.
CORRECTION:
Lubricate clutch pedal clevis pin and clutch pedal pivot points with white lithium grease. If squeak persists, replace clutch master and actuator cylinder assembly with (P/N 12569582).
PROCEDURE:
1. Actuate clutch pedal to verify clutch pedal squeak noise.
2. Remove I/P lower closeout panel (hush panel).
3. Lubricate clutch pedal clevis pin and clutch pedal pivot points using white lithium grease.
4. Actuate clutch pedal several times to determine if clutch pedal squeak noise is still present.
^ If squeak noise is no longer present, no further repair is necessary. Install I/P lower closeout panel (hush panel).
^ If squeak noise is still present, continue to next step.
5. Obtain replacement clutch master and actuator cylinder assembly (P/N 12569582).
6. Replace clutch master and actuator cylinder assembly. (Refer to the "Clutch Master Cylinder" procedure in the Clutch System section of the 2000/2001 L-Series Manual Transaxle Service Manual.)
7. Verify that squeak noise has been eliminated afier clutch master and actuator cylinder assembly replacement.
