SUBJECT:
Windshield Wipers Chatter or Hop Across Windshield During Wiper Operation (Replace Wiper Arm and Blade Assemblies)
Due to a change in parts requirements and models affected, this bulletin has been revised and supersedes bulletin 00-T-07, which should be discarded.
MODELS AFFECTED:
2000 Saturn L-Series Sedans and Wagons
CONDITION:
Some customers may comment about the windshield wipers chattering or hopping across the windshield during wiper operation.
CAUSE:
This condition may be caused by the wiper arms or blades being positioned at an angle that allows them to chatter when moving across windshield.
CORRECTION:
Install new wiper arm and blade assemblies.

- P/N 22674553 - Blade
Refer to the procedure in this bulletin for wiper arm replacement.
PROCEDURE
1. Remove wiper arm finish cap by pulling upward on finish cap at pivot location.
2. Mark current wiper arm locations on glass using tape or a wax pencil.
3. Remove wiper arm retaining nut and washer. Discard nut.
4. Lift wiper arm assembly away from windshield and remove wiper arm from pivot shaft.
5. Obtain replacement wiper arm and wiper blade assemblies.

^ For passenger side:
- P/N 22664287 - Arm
- P/N 22674553 - Blade
6. Install new wiper blades onto new wiper arms.
7. Position wiper arms near bottom of windshield and align with previous marks.
NOTICE:
New nuts must be used. Torque retention of old nuts may not be sufficient.
8. Install wiper arm retaining washer and a new nut (P/N 11096722).
Wiper Arm Retaining Nuts: 12 Nm (9 ft-lbs)
9. Install wiper arm finish cap.
10. Function wipers to ensure proper operation.
