56. Balance Shaft Chain and Tensioner Installation

IMPORTANT: If balance shafts are not properly timed to engine, the engine may vibrate and make noise.





1. Install upper balance shaft chain guide.





2. Install small balance shaft chain guide.
3. Tighten balance shaft chain guide bolts.
- Torque: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)





4. Install adjustable balance shaft drive chain guide.
- Torque: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)





5. Turn tensioner plunger 30 degrees in its bore and compress plunger until a paper clip can be inserted through the hole in plunger body and into the hole in tensioner plunger.
6. Install timing chain tensioner.
7. Tighten chain tensioner bolts.
- Torque: 10 Nm (89 inch lbs.)
8. Remove paper clip from balance shaft drive chain tensioner.
