Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Electronic: Service and Repair
REMOVAL1. Remove the IAC motor electrical connector.
2. Remove the IAC motor attaching screws.
NOTE: If the IAC motor has been in service: DO NOT push or pull on the IAC motor pintle. The force required to move the pintle may damage the threads on the worm drive. Also Do NOT soak the IAC motor in any liquid cleaner or solvent, as damage may result.
3. Remove the IAC motor assembly.
4. Clean IAC motor O-ring sealing surface, pintle valve seat, and air passage.
^ The IAC motor may be cleaned, use a shop towel or parts cleaning brush to remove heavy deposits.
^ Shiny spots on the pintle or seat are normal, and do not indicate misalignment or a bent pintle shaft.
^ Whenever air passage has heavy deposits, remove throttle body for complete cleaning.
^ Inspect IAC motor O-ring for cuts, cracks, or distortion. Replace it damaged.
MEASUREMENT PROCEDURE
This procedure is only for installing a new IAC motor.
IMPORTANT: It installing a new IAC motor, replace the IAC motor with and identical part. The IAC motor pintle shape and diameter are designed for the specific application.
Measure the distance between the tip of IAC motor pintle and mounting flange.
If greater than 28 mm (1.125 in.), use finger pressure to slowly retract the pintle. The force required to retract the pintle of a new motor will not cause damage to the valve.
INSTALLATION
1. Lubricate IAC motor O-ring with clean engine oil.
2. Install IAC motor and O-ring assembly.
3. Install IAC motor attaching screws.
Torque: 3 N.m (27 in-lbs)
4. Install electrical connector.
5. To reset IAC motor pintle position:
a. Turn ignition switch to On position (engine Off).
b. Turn ignition switch Off for 10 seconds.
