Steering Shaft: Service and Repair


REMOVAL





1. Remove lower left I/P closeout panel (hush panel).

NOTICE: Rotating the steering wheel while it is disconnected from the steering gear may cause damage to the SIR coil.





2. Remove the intermediate shaft-to-steering gear pinch bolt.
3. Remove intermediate shaft to steering column pinch bolt.
4. Remove intermediate shaft from vehicle.

INSTALLATION

IMPORTANT: Use Loctite 242 Threadlocker (or equivalent) on thread of pinch bolt.

1. Position intermediate shaft onto steering column and tighten pinch bolt.
Torque: 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.)
2. Install intermediate shaft onto steering gear and tighten pinch bolt.
Torque: 28 Nm (21 ft. lbs.)
3. Install lower left I/P closeout panel (hush panel).
