Clutch Slave Cylinder Bleeding Procedure

Tools Required
- SA9180NE-Vacuum Pump
- J35555-92-Pressure Adapter

IMPORTANT: This procedure describes how to bleed the clutch slave cylinder when the transaxle is out of the vehicle. If the transaxle is in the vehicle, refer to "Clutch Hydraulic System Bleeding Procedure".)

1. Connect a 450 mm (17.8 inch) long piece of transparent hose to slave cylinder fitting on transaxle.
2. Depress release bearing on slave cylinder towards clutch housing and then release it. Even though the release bearing will spring back, the slave cylinder piston will remain depressed next to clutch housing.

NOTICE: Do not use mineral oil or a paraffin base oil in the hydraulic system. These fluids will damage the rubber parts in the cylinders. Only DOT 3 brake fluid should be used.

3. Fill hose with 350 mm (13.8 inch) of DOT 3 brake fluid.
4. Connect vacuum pump SA9180NE with pressure adapter J35555-92 to top of hose.
5. Apply pressure to hose to force brake fluid into slave cylinder. Pressure on the gauge will increase when the slave cylinder piston reaches end of travel.
6. Remove vacuum/pressure pump from hose and depress release bearing. Air bubbles will appear in hose.
7. Repeat steps 5 & 6 until no air bubbles appear in hose. Leave slave cylinder piston in its depressed position.
8. Drain and remove hose.
