Sunroof / Moonroof: Description and Operation
SUNROOFThe sunroof is a conventional sliding power sunroof. When the sunroof opens, the glass slides into the roof between the headliner and the roof structure. The sunroof switch, located above the rearview mirror, is a one-touch control button for the open, close, and vent position of the sunroof panel. The switch supplies a signal to the power sunroof control module. The control module receives these signals and controls a relay which drives the power sunroof motor. The module operates the sunroof in normal open and close modes as well as the vent mode. The control module is internal to the sunroof motor and cannot be serviced separately. The switch is made up of two single-pole, single-throw switches with a common feed.
To adjust the position of the sunroof, the ignition must be in the RUN position. Press the CLOSE/VENT side of the switch to the first position to raise the rear of the sunroof to provide additional venting. Press the open side of the switch to close sunroof from vent positions. Press the OPEN switch to open the roof 3/4 way. Press the open side of the switch again to open to the full open position. To close the sunroof, press and hold the CLOSE portion of the switch.
As the panel opens, it moves the sunshade to the open position as well. The sunshade can be manually opened and closed from inside the car while the glass panel is in the closed position. The sunshade is designed to stay in the open position while the glass panel is in the open position.
Any water that passes the roof seal is drained from the sunroof tray by four tubes that lead from the corners of the tray to the rocker panels of the vehicle. The tray which acts as a framework for the sunroof assembly, has a water channel that encircles the sunroof opening and directs water to the drain tubes.
IMPORTANT: With the headliner removed, the sunroof can be manually cycled with a regular screwdriver. This tool fits into the drive gear, and when turned will operate the sunroof drive cables and simultaneously open or close the sunroof.
