Service Procedure

Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) Range Performance Check

1. Move vehicle outside and as far away as possible from objects that could interfere with RKE function.

2. While standing directly behind vehicle on drivers side at a distance of 15 feet, function test features on RKE.

^ If the vehicle locks and unlocks, RKE system is OK. However RKE range performance will be increased when BCM is rotated. Proceed to BCM Rotation Procedure" in this bulletin to rotate the BCM.

^ If the vehicle does not lock and unlock, move closer to the vehicle while functioning RKE transmitter.

- If RKE features operate when moved closer to vehicle it will be necessary to rotate the BCM. Proceed to "BCM Rotation Procedure" in this bulletin to rotate the BCM.

- If RKE features do not operate, refer to "Remote Keyless Entry (RKE System Check" procedure located in the Locks and Security section of the 2000 - 2001 L-Series Body Electrical Volume II Service Manual.

BCM Rotation Procedure

1. Open glove compartment door.

2. Remove glove compartment lamp assembly pulling on lamp plunger.





3. Disconnect glove compartment lamp wiring harness from glove compartment lamp.

4. Remove right side I/P lower closeout panel (hush panel) retainers.





5. Pull closeout panel (hush panel) rearward to detach from forward retainers.





6. Remove right side heater outlet assembly retainer and remove outlet.





7. Remove glove compartment door.





8. Remove glove compartment bin fasteners.





9. Slowly remove glove compartment bin tilting bin downward to expose BCM located on top of glove compartment bin.





10. Remove BCM module from glove compartment bin by sliding module out of attaching slots.

11. Re-secure BCM to the glove compartment bin slots with the BCM connectors oriented to the front of the car.

12. Install glove compartment bin partially into opening.





13. Route glove box lamp wiring harness through lamp opening and connect glove compartment lamp wiring harness to glove compartment lamp.

14. Snap lamp into glove compartment bin.





15. Install glove compartment bin to I/P with fasteners.

Torque:
Glove Compartment Bin-to-I/P
Fasteners: 2.5 N.m (22 in-lbs)





16. Install right side heater outlet with retainer to glove compartment bin.





17. Install right side lower I/P closeout panel (hush panel) with retainers.

18. Operate glove compartment lamp and glove compartment door to ensure proper operation.





19. Install glove compartment door with fasteners.

Torque:
Glove Compartment Door Outer Cover
Fasteners: 2 N.m (18 in-lbs)

20. Verify proper function of RKE system.
